escape to Margaritaville

Greenville Theatre | summer 2024

This June, Neel Patrick completed a run of Jimmy Buffett's romantic comedy Escape to Margaritaville at Greenville Theatre, where he played Brick alongside his friend Celia Blitzer as Tammy. Directed by Ashley Robinson, the production also starred Jacob Seay, Jamie Ann Walters, and Stan Peal.

"Neel Patrick is perfection—a delight to work with as well as a great talent. Besides being a wonderful actor and singer, his sweet, positive energy is infectious, inspiring an entire company to bring their best. I want him in every show I direct."

Director, Writer, Stage & Screen Actor

about Neel Patrick

"If they run ya out of town, get out in front and pretend it's a parade!"
- Elaine Stritch

Neel Patrick Edwards ("Neel Patrick", he/him) is a TONY AWARD-viewing performer and communications specialist based in the Upstate of South Carolina. Originally from Spartanburg, SC, Neel Patrick has been captivated by all-things theatrical from an early age and rarely misses an opportunity to entertain... or burst into a song or two.As an actor, Neel Patrick has been lucky enough to put his own spin on bucket-list musical theatre roles such as Max Bialystock in Mel Brooks’s The Producers (Joanne Woodward Award), Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls, and, most contrasting, Dom Claude Frollo in the musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame (BroadwayWorld SC Award Nomination). He has been honored to be able to perform with Carolina venues and theatres such as The Flat Rock Playhouse, Greenville Theatre, Centre Stage, The South Carolina Children’s Theatre, the Younts Center for Performing Arts, and the Simpsonville Arts Center. In addition to the arts, Neel Patrick holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and applies his expertise as a freelance communications professional. In 2023, paired with a heavy interest in arts administration, he founded Hartworks Theatrics, a small not-for-profot theatrical producing organization based in the SC Upstate. When he's not immersed in the world of theatre or crafting various communications strategies, Neel Patrick indulges his passion for all things Disney and the House of Mouse, particularly the magic of the Parks, where he finds the most joy.

BROADWAY WORLD

Mel Brooks' The Producers

The cast is uniformly top notch, fully embracing the over the top absurdity of the piece. Neel Patrick Edwards infuses his Max Bialystock with every last drop of energy he can possibly muster. And then amps it up. Combining [the character's] cynicism with sparkling personality and crisp comic timing, Edwards makes the most of this showstopping role.

CAROLINA CURTAIN CALL

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

“Hunchback” obviously contains some religious devotional music, and overtones, but the Church does not escape Hugo’s brutal pen, painting our antagonist Dom Claude Frollo (Neel Patrick Edwards) as a brutal hypocrite, proselytizing to Quasimodo about resisting the carnal desires of adolescence, all the while blatantly (and aggressively) pursuing Esmeralda. Young Edwards embodies a man about three times his age here. His presence and persona in this dramatic turn is piercingly real and he handily dominates the proceeding whenever he is in a scene. Frankly, it’s been long times since I have seen an actor just outright almost walk away with a show on this scale.
